Sometimes you just need to take ten. Preferably away from the table, so you don't immediately run into whatever it was that was bothering you.

Oh, Emma, I know that pain. It almost made me give up D&D. It is beyond infuriating to spend 1+ Hours on a character only to see it killed off right away. And it can feel very much like you have no control at all over your situation, especially at a low levels.
That's why not railroading is so important. If the players have zero control, they will get board and resent the DM.
