Given that Gary lives in a post-scarcity utopia and has spent much of his life in space, he has probably never had to run away from a swarm of insects before. Otherwise, he would likely know that insects are a nigh unstoppable force of nature. Don't insult them. Insects can smell irreverence, and do not take kindly to so-called higher life forms attempting to invade their colonies. Or starships, as the case may be.
